“I was scared my hymen would break or something.
Sometime in 2020, a friend texted me and asked if I’d like to learn about Menstual cups. We learn everyday, so I said why not? Everything was explicitly explained and they did a pretty good job, but to be honest, pads felt alright for me since I had never been stained before . Plus I was used to it already.
There was no urgency or trigger to make the switch to cups.
I promised that I’d get back to her, I didn’t, lol.
2 years later, in 2022 I was on my period, had to travel a really long distance. It was too late hen I realized something horrible had happened…I got horribly stained.
My pad shifted position, and a map of red formed on my blue trousers.
No one had the nerve to tell me I was stained on the way, found it very painful.
It was a really bad experience coupled with the fact that it happened on my birthday, totally ruined the flow of my day.
I placed my order immediately I got to my destination, never wanted to go through that again.
I was so excited but maybe a little scared too. Ivy reassured me that she would walk me through it. I got my package delivered to me. I needed orientation on how to use my cup though and I was of course taught the process from scratch.
I decided to try it on my next off day, just to make sure I didn’t injure myself as I had no experience with internal period products or even sexual intercourse.
I didn’t get it right on the first attempt. Neither did I on the second or third. I panicked.
When I realized I was starting to force it, which was hurting, I stopped. I texted Ivy and she helped me figure out how to do it pain-free.
On my third try, I eventually got it in but not quite perfectly.
At this point, I was tired.
I took a break and tried again, following the procedures to the letter.
It was a successful attempt this time out.
I guess I still had a few things t learn as I had leaks at first.
After speaking with Ivy again, she helped me figure it out and I stopped having leaks.
When I tell you it was the most comfortable thing ever.
Ever since I started using my cup, it’s been absolute bliss. No rashes, no embarrassing stains. I actually wear my cup for up to 12 hours! I’d have changed pads at the least 3 times in 12 hours. I still can’t believe my eyes every month! I started working out recently, and thought it would have some negative effects, but none. I NEVER EXPECTED IT.
There’s one vivid experience I have of my time with my cup: Yeah, there was this day I had an exam, read all through the night, and I slept off. I woke up few minutes to my exam. I totally forgot to remove my cup. It was on my way back from the exam, I realized. No unfortunate accident happened!
Another one; Recently, I travelled to a place where I had to share the restroom with quite a number of people. It wouldn’t have been comfortable for me if I was still on pads. It has really made life easier.
I’m so glad I took the risk to make the switch. I’ll take cups over pads everyday and twice on Sundays.
It is truly the best decision I’ve made about my menstrual life and I’m glad I did.
